"Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister"
By: Gregory Maguire

I've only read one of his books before - "Wicked" – which I had really enjoyed and was the main reason why I picked up "Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister" without really looking at it first. Unfortunately, it's a historical novel, not a fantasy, and the only the sole thing that's keeping it from being it from being a bog standard 100% down the middle historical novel is the fact that it retells the story of Cinderella as if the basic story had really happened and had become embellished over the centuries.

As a result it defiantly was not my cup of tea and I didn't enjoy nearly as much as other people will I suspect. It is well written, but it is very light reading and is not what I was expecting at all. The main good things I can say about it are the fact that it is well written and I was able to finish reading it with no real problems despite my interest in the basic story vanishing very quickly.
